Some girls get mood swings before their periods - you might find that you cry easier or fell depressed for no reason. You may also get cramps or a slight ache around "that area" and your lower abdomen. Before I started, I noticed a clear, sligtly milky discharge in my underwear. If it comes on you suddenly and you get bloodstains on your clothes, wash the stained area in COLD - not hot - water with soap and a little all-fabric bleach if it doesn't come out easily.

There are all kinds of little things you can feel beforehand, but usually it takes a while for a woman to recognise these signals, since they can be different for each woman. For me? well, I have some shap stab like headaches... then I have the same in my belly, and some minor back ache.. and when all these little pains are gone again.. my period starts... so in the next few years if you suddenly feel really cranky or you start with headaches or something? .... you know what might be happening. Carry some sanitary stuff with you just in case and then you don't have to worry about it... Some girls don't even start till they're about 14... so calm down :)

Well you can always start by asking your mom at what age did she receive her first cycle? You should openly talk about this with your mom or guardian. There is alot that goes on with starting your cycle. As far as knowing when you will start there aren't any signs. It will just happen. There will be small signs of bleeding so you should carry around a pad in your backpack just in case. You can also consult your school nurse if you have one. Usually they are very helpful with educating on this subject. Good luck honey!

It will probably start by your seeing a dark brown discharge or spotting in your panties. You may feel a little crampy in your lower abdomen, and may feel more emotional than normal. Some girls don't have signs other than the discharge starting. Make sure you have some sanitary pads around the house and carry one in your purse in case you are away from home.

It may be embarrassing but maybe you shoud try to talk to your mom so she can look out for you, make sure thst you know how to put the pads properly in your panties, how to keep yourself clean, and how to properly dispose of your used pads. All girls need to be taught these simple things by a girl or woman they can trust.

sometimes you notice cramps for a couple days prior or slight spotting which is just a pink tint when you are wiping after using the bathroom. when I got my first one I had no signs beforehand. Just always make sure you have a pad handy just incase. Always with wings are wonderful! good luck!

signs are:
-2-6 years after you start developing breasts
-1-4 years after pubic hair
-6-18 months after discharge starts
-around the same time your mother did
-subtract 1 1/4 months from when your oldest sister got hers-(around then)
-when you get your period

just keep a pad or tampon in your locker until you get it.

Yeah, mine just surprised me at the worst possible time. There's no way of knowing and you may have another few years to wait too.
