We'll start with water on the surface of the earth. As the sun's energy warms the water, the water molecules absorb the energy and move faster. Some move so fast they break away from the liquid and move in the air as water vapor. The water vapor travels up in the sky. Since up high is cold, the water begins to condense and come together to form the clouds. Once enough water builds up, it becomes too heavy to stay in the sky and falls back down to earth, where the cycle repeats.

Water in the surface like the sea or river or waterin the puddle when heated by the sun evaporates and goes up, this water vapor then begins to form a cloud and since the temperature in atmosphere is cold the clouds begun to condense hence the rain. The rain goes down and become water surface again. The process repeat again and again.

If I was telling a child about the water cycle, I would tell them that water comes from rain, runoff from mountains, ground water run off, water in lakes and oceans, and this water begins to evaporate and is reabsorbed by the clouds which then rains down and replenishes the lost water.

Water does not get created or destroyed (this is not really tru, but you said for a child). Water gets converted from one form to another. Plants give off water (calles transpiration) and absorb water in their roots. Humans drink water and give off water (through sweating and excretion).
Water also evoperates from ponds, lakes, oceans and rivers.. This forms clouds. Clouds eventually give off water as rain and snow.
The total amount of ALL water given up EXACTLY EQUALS the total amount as ALL water released. That is why it is a cycle.
(Water does get created from oxidaion of hydrogen in hydrocarbons and other hydrogen containing compounds. Hydrogen literally means water producing. Organisms convert hydrogen from water to other compounds. Plants do this as photosynthesis, producing sugars and fat. So do other organisms.)

The sun heats up the water off lakes and rivers and a vapour rises up to the sky and makes clouds.(Evaporation)
The clouds hold in the water and it starts to cool.(Condensation)
When it is cold and very heavy it starts to rain( Precipitation) and it falls to the ground and fills up the rivers and lakes again.(Collection)

The first two website explain the process to children with pictures. The last website is a game where "droplet" falls from the sky and needs to get home.
Have fun.

water cycle consists of following steps-
1)water gets evaporated from water-bodies(lakes,ocean,etc) by sun's heat.
water chages to water vapour
(liquid) (gas)
2)as water vapuors rises higher they cool down and condenses
(dust particles acts as nucleus)
THEY FORM CLOUDS
3)when clouds become heavy they fall in form of rain
