According to "proper ettiquette" you have up to one year to give a gift to a newlywed couple.
If you really want to give them something at the wedding, how about putting an "IOU" in a nicely wrapped box promising them a scrapbook of their wedding or engagement photos or something like that. You could give them a one page preview...
Or use the information you know about the ceremony (time, place, etc...) and create your own invitation to do something with.
You could also cover a photo album with white satin and some pretty lace for them to use with their wedding photos.

Hey....yes this is a pickle! You should make more of a collage than a scrapbook, but this will only work if you are friends with the groom as well. Take pictures that you have of them hanging out with friends, family, etc...and make a scrapbook page with all of them and frame it. That way you are giving them a gift that is way more meaningful than a store bought one. Something else that you could do is to ask married couples around you for advice on marriage, take what they say, and make a book out of it.

A perfect wedding gift is a video scrapbook. Have a service scan in some sentimental photos for you, set it to music, and you have a touching photo montage for your friend. Many services will do rush jobs too.

You could make her a picture frame. My wife loves to do all kinds of crafts, and you'd have enough time to make this (plus, it's more personal than getting something off the registry...). Go to Michaels and get some tiles or glass meant for mosaics as well as some grout to put between the tiles or glass. You'll also need glue to secure them to the wood. You can check out the picture frames they have premade (wood), and just add to it. Your friend will love that you took the time to make something personal for one of their best wedding shots. Tip: buy a frame in a normal size-5X7, 8X10, etc. Hope that helps!

Why not make them a wedding ball for the christmas tree? They're only a buck empty at the craft store, you decorate the inside.

i was in the same situation with my best friend.
I got a cone of 100% cotton in cream and crocheted wash cloths and hot pads for her kitchen. I always like to come up with gifts that i can make that are useful as well.
Good luck on coming up with a creative and thoughtful gift.
Blessings!
