Its not so much money, but the security required for rearing the young that it represents, from an evolutionary perspective.
Like nearly all primates, human females have been shown across all cultures to prefer long-term mates that can act as providers of food, resources and protection. It seems to be hard-wired in the female brain, regardless of differential earning power.

Sorry, I simply don't see this as a philosophical question. & it is stated as such an absolute, as if it could be answered with a yes or no. Matter more than to men? Matter more than anything? You don't leave us with a question that can be answered. I can only "sense" this is a personal question, & if so, details would have helped.
