Amazing film, but which parts are true and which parts are false ?

The part about his personal doctor is made up, but in reality Amin's health minister did "defect" from the country during a medical conference. He went to England and wrote a book about Amin.
The spirit of the movie is pretty true--while he may not have specifically killed his wife, he was known for other cruel things, like feeding people he didn't like to crocodiles.
And the part about expelling "Asians" from the country was true, and he really did have a thing for Scotland and proclaimed himself to be the Last King of Scotland.

As fictional characters, James McAvoy portrays Dr. Nicholas Garrigan (very loosely based on events in the life of English-born Bob Astles); Gillian Anderson plays the health-aide wife of the doctor (Adam Kotz) with whom Garrigan first works in Uganda; and Simon McBurney plays a British diplomat.

It is based on real events, Amin did hang people like he does to Dr. Nicholas Garrigan towards the end of the film. Most of the things that happen to Amin did happen in real life, the film is actually based upon a book that has the same name. Dr. Nicholas Garrigan is not a real person but a collection of several people.

There was a despot called Idi Amin who controlled Uganda ,had people killed ,threw out the resident Ugandan "Indians" (majority of who fled here to the UK) - that`s it really ,the rest is fiction and speculation.

Its a hollywood movie so like the bible it will comprise of a few scraps of truth intermingled with one hell of a lot of falsehoods!
