If you run it, it will be immediately installed onto your computer. If you save it, then just the executable file will be saved onto your computer and you can install it at a later date.

If I know it's a long file I will usually "save" it. I do this because if I say to "run" it, and during the download there is a computer problem or I have to leave for any reason and the download is stopped, then you will have to download the entire file again. However, if you had said to "save" it, then when you download it once again, the download will pick it up at the same place that you left off. Another reason I "save" is to have the executable file on my hard disk in case I want to use it in the future. Let's say that you somehow lose the program. You can then easily go back to the file that you saved and reload it. Simple. You can also give that file to friend, so that they won't have to download it, especially if they have a slow computer. You can also use "save" when you are downloading a file for someone else and you don't want to install it on your computer. Just "save" it and then copy the file for your friend. Then when they put it on their computer they can install it. So, there are a few advantages to saving rather then running. But if it's just a small file that you won't share with others and you won't have a problem with getting rid of it, then just go ahead and run it.

I hope that all made sense.

To save a program is like purchasing a lightbulb for a lamp. So you have a working lightbulb that you could put in the lamp. IF you did that lamp would give off light.

To Run a program is to actually turn on the lamp with that bulb in it and have light.

save means that you will save it on your hard drive on the computer which is what you want to do. Run it will run it from off the internet. When I downloaded it, my dad told me to save it to the computer, not to run it.
