I would like to know why anyone would plan to have an epidural during childbirth? I can't imagine not wanting to be able to feel my baby coming out, it's the best feeling in the world!!

Notice I say 'plan'. I'm not on my high horse at all, I want to know why people would plan to have one in advance before they know what it feels like.
Please, try not to be offended and read my question the way it was meant.

And yes, I have had a baby. I gave birth at home and had no pain medication. It was just my way, I think everyone should do what they feel is right. I was in labour for about 37 hours.

I agree, but some people need pain management when they are labor. Everyone differs as far as that goes.
Some women may ask why you wouldn't want to have an epidural.

Some people don't feel the need to go through all the pain just to feel like a mother. Also, everyone has a different pain tolerance. And, if you are in too much pain studies have shown that labor can take longer so the epidural is actually beneficial in some cases. I do think it is a personal choice and women should do what they feel is right at the time and should not be persuaded into either having the epidural or other pain meds or not.

I planned on giving birth to my son without any pain medications but because he was premature and had not dropped into position, it was much harder and longer of a labor that I had planned. By the time I got to 9 centimeters, I couldn't stand the pain and was screaming for help. The epidural allowed me to relax a little and I was still able to feel him coming out even though I couldn't feel the contractions, only pressure. With this baby, I know for sure that I want the epidural right away. I'd like to enjoy the labor experience without the extreme pain that I experienced last time.

I don't know if you have ever had an epidural or not. But I did still feel the pressure of my baby coming out. Also this is 2007 why be uncomfortable and have all the pain when you can have the pain cut down. I've had to sons and one on the way I plan totally on having an epidural again I say why be in pain when you don't have to be.

i had to get an epidural because i had high blood pressure when i was pregnant with my son. if i didnt take the epidural the pain of having the baby would have made my blood pressure go even higher and there would have been a chance that me and my baby would not survive. so some people get epidurals for health reasons like high risk pregnancies. i was one of them. By the way, i still felt my son come out. it was the best feeling in the world. i just could not feel the contractions.

If at the time of labor your blood pressure is very high, like if you have proclaims you don't have a choice. The doctor will order you an epidural because it does lower your blood pressure. your blood pressure sometimes will go up during birth.
And mommy to be, I sorry to tell you but not all women are in labor for only a little while. Haven't you ever heard of people being in labor for 12 hours or more. Ouch! If you have a good doctor you wont become paralyzed

I didn't want the epidural not because I wanted to feel my child comeing out but because I am TEARIFFIDE of needles and the one they use for that is sooo not nice. But I am sure that most women don't want to have to go threw the PAIN that is going on BEFORE the child is out. Have you had a child because if you have then you know the pain I am talking about and every person's pain tolorence is diffrent some really just can't take the pain and there for perfure not to try.

Some people can't handle that much pain. Sometimes women need it to because the anxiety tenses them up so bad that it inhibits the birth process and can cause more pain and longer labor.
I didn't have an epidural, but I would never question someone else decision to have one, as I would not want them to question mine.

are you crazy or do you just like pain? i had one with my first child. best thing in the world, and trust me i could still feel that huge head on an 8 lb child bursting through. not the best feeling in the world, just ask my husband whos head was smashed into the bedrail. my other two i did not have a choice i had to have an emergency c-section with one and the next one was planned so i had to have a spinal block. that is the best feeling in the world. trust me i love my children and would undergo any amount of pain for them but it is just stupid not to take the easier way out when it comes to this. trust me i was in labor so long that it wore off and they did not want to give me anymore meds b/c i was so close, i told them i would not push again untill i got the meds!
