Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

http://www.kahmer.com
http://www.joeant.com
The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank
with Yahoo / Google / MSN.
Also work on your meta tags. Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html

Google (which accounts for over half of all internet searches) rates websites by the number of other websites that link to them.
So you probably need to somehow get other sites to post links to yours. They will only do that if your site is good though.
Pretty good system hey ?

Get more hits, naturally, but you can be a sponsor for your program or what ever website it is, and have yahoo or google sponsor it. I dont know how much it will cost, depends on your competitors.
