It's not hurting me but I've always thought that 50 DEN tights are thick and women wear them when it's very cold.

kind of overkill. I don't really think 40 is all that cold. It is cold but not so much that I would drag out my long underwear or anything. I would be more apt to wear warmer pants, probably wool with lining or something. But if your mom is cold, then she can really do what she wants.
