Absolutley - Bin Laden was a hero to many here in the United States for his military and financial contributions to the Afghan rebels fighting against the Russians back in the early 1980s.

Yes, I did. I knew he was a terrorist leader responsible for the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, as well as the USS Cole in Yemen. He was probably hiding out in Afghanistan and President Clinton had a few opportunities to catch or kill him but didn't do it for political or diplomatic reasons (remember that Clinton was being impeached in 1998, if he would have tried to kill bin Laden, Congressional Republicans would have said that he is using bin Laden as a diversion from the real issue, the charges of perjury against him).

Yes, in 1998 Bin Laden was indicted for the by the Clinton Administration for the bombing of two US embassies. He was listed as a terrorist at that point and put on an international watch list. This was followed by several attempts on the part of the administration to assassinate Bin Laden, by bombing Training camps where he was thought to be.

As a matter of a fact yes. Several Democrats(as well as Republicans) acknowledged the fact that he was one of the most dangerous people in the world while President Clinton was in office and he even has the Saudis offer to take bin Laden out and passed up the chance.

Yes.
I knew him to be the figurehead of a major terrorist group that was responsible for several attacks on our country, including the USS Cole and the first Trade Center Bombing.
But, my father was military and working in the intelligence section so I heard a lot of stuff at home that not everyone did because the media didn't talk about it.

No, before 9/11 I had never heard of him. I was only 17 when 9/11 happened. That might be another reason why I had never heard of him.

To be honest I didn't pay much attention to the names of the players before 911. I figured we had teams of people that were paying attention to this stuff and I didn't need to. Even knowing his name today, does not make a hill of beans difference.

Truth:
OBL is from Saudi. Bush's father was friends with OBL's father, via oil investments.

Yes, as soon as the planes hit the buildings and it was clear it was a terrorist attack, I was telling my friends it was likely OBL.
