It all depends what you're into. Let me draw out a few categories of what I like to read, then maybe you can find something for yourself in there.
Historical Fiction: Anything by Bernard Cornwell. These are violent, gritty, action-packed sagas...think Braveheart as a novel. I stay away from his Sharpe series, but the Warlord Trilogy and the Grail Quest series are incredible. Also, his newest series, The Saxon Stories, are excellent. Look for Harlequin, The Winter King, or The Last Kingdom...these are the first books in each of the series.
Also, for a more dramatic, less gritty flavor of HF try Edward Rutherford's sprawling, multi-generational sagas. Sarum was a great read, as are his others.
Horror: For something fresh and original, try Bentley Little. His works vary in quality, at least I feel they do, but some of them are downright fantastic. Try Dispatch.
Fantasy: Hands down, this one goes to George R.R. Martin. If you don't know who he is, go read Clash of Kings and be prepared to be sucked into a massive series of breathtaking books. My fiancee and I are addicted. Another good fantasy writer, this one writing more modern fantasy and magic realis, is Charles deLint.
General Fiction: I loved The Curious Incident Of The Dog In Night-Time by Mark Haddon, a story about an autistic boy trying to solve the murder of a neighborhood dog, and his quest to find the mother he believed was dead.
Or you could always try my book, Clean, which is about a broken man traveling across Britain, questing for a childhood vision. If you find it somewhere and read it, give me a holler and let me know what you thought. =)

I highly recommend reading some not so known classics, such as John Lennon's, In His Own Write. Linda Goodman is probably the best in her field of astrology when it comes to relationships. Piers Anthoney is by far my favorite fantasy writer, he combines adventure with romance. A Spell for Chameleon is hi best know, but Tathom Mound is great for the history buff interested in Native American culture. Then, Carl Jung can tell you about some of the most important things about yourself, through your friends. I don't recommend reading directly from this physiologists notes, but books that interpret his theories. enjoy reading!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer! Awesome book!
Maximum Ride :The Angel Experiment by James Patterson is also very good.
Twilight is a vampire romance story. a girl moves from Sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to very rainy Forks, Washington, and meets a family of vampires and falls in love with one of them.
Maximum Ride is about 6 kids who can fly. Freak experiments, they don't even know how long they are able to live and they're on the run with 1 mission --save the world.
