It is necessary but tell me this. We have to learn spainish or any other language, why do we have to learn it i mean if hispanics or any other race people are coming over from their country then they should english first. Especially illegal immigrants they shouln't have came over if they did not know english. Im not trying sound like a redneck but i already know hindi and english, why force me to learn another language to pass high school. America is a country that speaks english and if people want to come over here they should learn english instead of sticking to their own language. I think this president wants to punish the people that they do not like his ideas.
Do u guys agree, i mean us high school students have such heavy work from math and science and all other subjects trying to make our future why should we HAVE to learn language, why can't they just make it an option. People we have so much work from other subjects like science aren't they just pushing us students too hard

u learn a foreign language for college plain and simple. i took German in high school. but allot of places only offer Spanish because it is easier to teach. and u do realize English is the hardest language to learn think about that when u rag somebody that doesn't speak it in fact my boss is from Mexico and speaks perfect English but speaks Spanish at home. so just because u hear then speaking Spanish doesn't mean they can't speak English

Well, I don't think you have to learn the language to communicate with immigrants.

I think it is for other reasons. For example, there are many languages in the world. English is the third largest (after Chinese and Spanish), so many books and texts are translated to English. Still at times, if you want to have the latest information, it can be good to be able to understand the original language.

Also the pleasure of reading literature in its original language can have its benefits.

Most importantly, trade. The US has a huge deficit, I guess you know this. What it means in practice is that every dollar the US owes to another country is in fact owned by that country. As the deficit is so big, the country is actually in foreign hands. This is not a problem. The US still has a healthy economy and foreign investments are helping the economy to grow. Yet more and more US companies are now co-owned by foreign investers. If you are to have a career at one of the large US cooperation’s, in many cases it is good to know a foreign language, so you can speak to your colleagues and bosses in their own tongue.

Many large foreign companies are present in the US. BMW, Hugo Boss, Mercedes, Deutsche Bank, Philips, Erickson, ING, Sony, Nokia, Dior, LG, ABN-AMRO. If you want a career there, and you want to move up, you will eventually get confronted with other languages.

These are some of the reasons, I guess. I live in the Netherlands. Dutch is a small language. So we have to learn English, German and French. Although we can choose between the last two after some time. I live in the south, if I take my bicycle I can be in Germany within the hour, and in Belgium in about an hour and a half. So for me learning foreign languages was a necessity of life. I am currently learning Russian.

Hope this helps answering your question. Sorry mate, you just have to swollow it, it will be good for you later!

Perhaps one of the purposes of High School is to give people a set of skills and knowledge that may come in handy later. I would sympathize with you in so far as being forced to learn or aquire skills you either believe you should not or do not want to use.

An alternative to this would be for you to consider what skills and knowledge will be most important for you to in life. Then to work out a plan of how you can get the knowledge and skill you need to do the things you want to do.

If you feel that you can better achieve you skill and knowledge goals independently of school, then do so and become an expert in the area you want to specialize in. It may be possible under these circumstances to ignore high school and simpley leave to pursue you own chosen path of skill aquisition and knowledge.

If after careful consideration you feel that an independant course of action is not in your best interests then you can only reluctantly defer to the authority of those that insist that you learn spanish. A book which may assist you in making up you mind whether or not leave high school in called "Teach Yourself To Think" by Edward De Bono.

I have passed and obtained numerous qualifications in my life, and have to say that none of them ever really made any difference. The only thing that was of use , was the education I got in obtaining various bits of paper.
