Please don't suggest the many and varied plastic miracle baubles that are available as they simply do not work as well as the manufacturers would have you believe. Thanks!

Yes. Alternative is dirty clothes. My mother used to have very hard water, and the old soaps back then did not work in hard water, so the clothes would not come clean. You need some form of detergent for that--but any brand will do, if you don't work in an automotive garage or do hard manual labor that gets clothes really dirty--just buy the cheapest out there that is concentrated, it works fine. You can also add borax to your wash, and use less detergent, and borax is cheap.

I am a bit flummoxed by your question then... what is it you want to know? you can use powders, liquids, or yes those balls. something will have to get the dirt out of clothes, and that is what detergents/soaps do. Washing up liquid is a detergent but foams up too much for automatic machines as do soap flakes, soap, bubble bath etc lol.

Of course, you could always use elbow grease and just rub the hell out of your clothes by hand using an old wash board and water.

The detergents are what binds oils and water so that oils can be pulled out of your clothes. Without detergent you would be rinsing loose particles out of your clothes but not removing the oils from your body that is in them.

So yes you need to use some form of detergent, or your clothes will smell bad after the oils build up, if they don't already.

Hi, i don't like washing powder or the stupid machine balls either, i use a liquid that i pour into the powder draw made by a company called easy, iceland sell it, i find it doesn't leave white powder marks on my clothes nor plastic bits that haven't dissolved. It washes through great and smells nice too, hope this helps.
