The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner is pretty trippy and out of order, much like Pulp Fiction.

Not only that, but it's much more intelligent than manga. If he tells people he's read Faulkner, his teachers will be impressed.

Harry Potter, The Grapes of Wrath, Anne of Green Gables, To kill a mockingbird, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Richest Man in Babylon, your local librarian can be very helpful. (And the movie Pulp fiction is not a suitable movie for teenagers, and probably not even adults, you may want to pay closer attention to your son, and help him find movies to watch that would help him more in life).

My idea is to take him to an anime shop that sells manga and let him peruse the manga. I'm 24 and I read it, it is like a comic, only better. So it'll mix his enjoyment of visual stuff(like the movie) with reading.

Uhm just make sure you check it to make sure it's ok with your parental guidelines that you set for him.

You can also look into it online, just look up manga through a search engine or go to a place like http://www.tokyopop.com/

The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Excellent tight writing. The main mystery's a little muddled, but there's lots of action and violence.
