I'm a 54yr old active Grammie who was giving my 4yr granddaughter and 15 month grandson airplane rides. . . swinging them in circles with one arm and one leg until they got dizzy and tried to walk. . . We all laughed sooooo hard until 4 days later when Grammie couldn't even get up out of a chair once I did manage to get seated.
Went to my family Dr who gave me muscle relaxers that didn't help any more than Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
About the 5th day into this deal I finally sought relief from a Chiropractor which until now I had not trusted or believed in and with back adjustments and ultrasound treatments on my injured back muscle for the next 4 days supplimented with Ibuprofen I "was healed".
I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. . . "old age" changes and told that I didn't need to change anything I was doing but that I just needed to use proper muscle warming up exercises and bending/lifting techniques.
After treatments I used heat packs on my back, slept with a pillow between my legs and started watching what I was doing.
Since then I have been trying to lift properly,no twisting at the waist and better back posture.
Both my family Dr and the Chiropractor told me that strained/sprained back muscles take time to heal but THANK GOD it only really took me a week and I attribute it to the back adjustments and the ultrasound treatments.

I get back spasms quite often. Other than letting it run its course, and using a heating pad as often as possible, try using Tylenol Arthritis. I take 3 at a time and it really does help. Just remember to read the warnings on the bottle. You're not supposed to take more than 6 in 24 hours.

Other than that you might want to try consulting your doctor. He or she may have better advice. Hope your husband gets better!

I'm using Ibuprofen at the moment. Tylenol Arthritis works good for pain..but not for inflammation. Maybe see the MD and get some pain meds. .A muscle pull will go away..but sciatica takes time.

Get him to a specialist. Mine happened two years ago. Still hurts.
