Americans aren't opposed to Islam, and we don't think muslims are terrorists.
But if you look at recent history, many of the terrorists who have carried out attacks use Islam as an excuse for their actions. They come from Islamic countries, they're supported financially by Islamic organizations...there's certainly a link.
Most of us are smart enough to know that the Muslims supporting such actions are extremists that do NOT represent mainstream Islam. Yet much of the Islamic world, the non-extreme ones, aren't doing much if anything to stop these extremists who do horrible things in their religion's name. We think they should do more.
I no more blame Islam for terrorism than I blame Christianity for fundamentalists who shoot doctors...yet both kinds of people arise from religious fanaticism, and the moderate groups in both cases do little to stop the fanatics who do bad things in their name. In both cases, if the maintstream groups want respect, they need to deal with the fanatics in their midst, and not leave it up to others to do so.

Like thepesimist said, we're not opposed to Islam. We're opposed to radicals. Radical Islamists will do anything for their leaders (MUHAMMAD!), just like how Americans feel with democracy: every father would give up his only begotten son for their belief in democracy. The Islamists will give up their lives to destroy their enemies: that's why we have suicide bombers.
We oppose the regime that aided the Middle East in destroying the World Trade Center: we fight because we want other countries to have freedom like we do. Either way, we should be less woried about the Middle East and a LOT more worried on North Korea. And Canada (they're right above us. It scares me.)

I think GRAHAM CRACKER HEAD and BRIAN M have the answer between them. In US there is a wide spread belief that media is free. Well, theoretically there is a lot of validity in that you can print a lot of opinions with impunity. However, what is not understood by the vast majority is that the media is owned and to a VERY great extent controlled by the very wealthy and Zionist Jews. Consequently it is an integral part of promoting and implementing the Zionist and corporate agenda. Why else do you think Israel gets away with gross crimes against humanity and the Muslims are portrayed as terrorists when you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that in Iraq alone over 400 000 Iraqis have been killed or so much od Lebanon destroyed and Palestinians are facing concentration type living conditions imposed on them by Jews, all against UN conventions, too. Who is occupying who? Who is stealing resources like oil from who? What was the provocation for destruction of Iraq? Who has been putting puppet dictators in whose nations and talks about bringing democracy?

People fear what they do not understand. We all know that ALL Muslims are not terrorists. Just as we know that all members of Congress or the Senate are not child molesters.
As a matter of fact we had a white "terrorist" involved in the Oklahoma bombing. That didn't make all whites 'terorrists". There are terrorists in every race, ethnicity, culture.

Because you are, and its not just America, its a large chunk of the world. You muslims need to take care of your own, by stopping the violence and not allowing the terrorists to do what they do. You have to stop people from protesting in the streets with signs saying Death to the pope, death to america, death to Europe and my personal favorite, Europe is in line for a 9/11. At the moment, its safe to say all muslims have the propensity to be terrorists. I mean, you even have high ranking leaders in the muslim community calling for deaths of those who leave the religion and those who agreed to meetings between shias and sunnis. Yeah, you guys are peaceful.

Hopefully 1 day the media will finally show who the true terrorists are... and i guess travelling to iraq, killin innocent people in there own country is not counted as a terrorist attack because they sit in there lil planes in their army uniform and kill Civillains, rape and torture is somehow translated into "helpin others" funny how they sex up the term terrorists, But i guess what ever lights your lighthouse... Every dog will get his day :) And 1 day the tables will be turned :)

I don't think all Muslims are terrorists but some are. The majority of terrorists these days happen to be Muslim. We're not against your religion, we just oppose terrorism.

Americans are not opposed to Islam. Americans are opposed to terrorists. Unfortunately for other Muslims, most terrorists these days seem to be Muslims.

I think a lot of americans oppose Islam because they are told to by a christian right government, I understand how frustating it must be for you, but it will hopefully blow over, they,( the governments and Christian groupes) are just useing your culture as scapegoats to keep the minds of the population occupied because the world is in such horrible shape that if folks concentrated on the real issues, there would most likely be chaos, and governments would tople! so grin and bear it any -one with a brain really knows whats going on and take comfort in the fact that this is (I hope ) the last holy war ever, as unfortunate as it sounds I really think that organised religion will soon be abolished in most parts of the world as it causes too much hate! I know this sounds horrid, but its a nessesary evil if we all want to get along, keep your spirituality, its value is priceless, and have patience, governments tople and things change, we as north americans don't hate your people, most people are just too ignorant to think for them selves

I have said this to many a person,if the majority if them were terrorists with BILLIONS of them,we would all be dead already.or if only 1% were terrorists.It would be horrible.
Bush has caused about half a million people to die in Iraq by having that country invaded,that doesn't mean that all white Christians agree with him.
