I would say that depends on what is important to you in your phone service...a lot of phone plans are cheaper, but you may suffer in terms of phone choices and signal strength when making calls. Others cost a bit more, but you get better customer service and less dropped calls. My advice would be to determine what factors are important to you (cost, minutes, whether you want unused minutes to roll into the next month, a particular phone you want, signal quality and coverage, online services) and then look at the major carriers and see if they have plans/phones/coverage that meet your needs. In this day and age, also, just about everyone around you probably has a cell phone, and they will be better able to tell you whether in your area whether there are a lot of dropped calls or how customer service is with different groups. If you travel a lot, keep in mind you will need a plan with free or inexpensive roaming if the carrier is not national. Also, if you don't travel frequently, you may be able to take advantage of plans that cater to people calling in a very small area. Best advice is to compare plans side-by-side...here is a link to a website that has a little spreadsheet you can use to do exactly that:

Also, this site has a more detailed synopsis of the message above:

I have sprint and it is alright for service. Stay away from pre-pay phone service if you use your phone allot. If you don't, pre-pay service is the way to go. The phones offered with the pre-pay service isn't the best. Hope this helps

Stay away from Sprint, Nextel and Verizon as they use the CDMA technology which nobody else the world over uses, T mobile, Cingular and all the others use the GSM technology which uses SIM cards and is the industry standard the world over. Good luck.

don't get Tmobile...for the love of god dont get them.they have the worst network and customer service.also watch out for those pre paid phones because they can be more expensive than a contract plan.Verizon has the best network,Cingular follows next and remember they got rollover minutes.Sprint/Nextel follow next but they tend to be more expensive but have walkie talkie options.if you dont get approved at one try another because each cell company has different markers for worthy applicants.
