what do you know about the great depression?

It was caused by overspeculation of the stock market, causing it to crash. Farmers came to California to find jobs, but only found 5 cent paying jobs plus thousands more of migrant farmers. A good book about this time period is "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck.

I know it was very hard on ALOT of people! People I know who went through always seemed to be preparing for it to happen again.

It was caused by a stock market crash....what caused that crash? Many people where out of work for a very long time lost just about everything thry had. the ones who survived as far as being able to EAT where the ones who where self sufficent....grew there own foods and such....to much today we depend on others for basic life needs...i often wonder how well people would deal with something like that now. Family's don't seem to work together and pull together as they did at the time of the Great Depression! people helped each other out.
