Although there are some similarities in syntax of the two languages, there are not the same. If you want an introduction to JavaScript, take a look at http://www.w3schools.com where you will find a number of tutorials on web-related topics. As for hardcopy reference material, check out the JavaScript Bible.

Java and JavaScript are not the same. To use JavaScript in HTML docs, just place it in the coding, you don't really need to know how to write it, just how to use it.
