5. Works Cited: Final formal list of sources.

The goal of the research paper is to prove something. Write your thesis first. Your thesis is the sentence in your introduction that states what the purpose of your paper will be. You're going to have to use quotes from books, but don't put too many quotes. You usually need about 7 sources preferably books because the internet can be misleading sometimes (ha how ironic). Make sure you cite where you got the quotes from. Biographical info does not have to be cited. Number every page except the cover page and the first page. The # should be on the top right hand corner. Make sure you use words such as, "in addition and moreover", to connect sentences to avoid having a lot of short sentences. Always, always, always have the purpose of your paper in mind--it's the most important thing about writing a research paper. Do not wait till the last minute because it's not fun pulling an all nighter to finish a paper. Do 1 step at a time and try to set a day where you'll work on it at school because there aren't as many distractions there.

Simply research on google, yahoo, or any search engine. Also try the library or even interview someone. Then take your facts, organize them, and write an essay.

Normally, essays contain five paragraphs.

1 intro paragraph: 5 sentences
- Includes an attention-grabbing intro
- You NEED a thesis, which is a sentence summarizing your essay.

3 body paragraphs: At least 5 sentences EACH
- Each paragraph must contain one thought or supportive idea that goes with your thesis.
- Use quotes to back up your facts.

Conclusion: 3 - 5 sentences
- Restate your thesis
- Leave the readers with a good ending.

Remember, use correct grammar/spelling and descriptive words.

Plagiarize is your friend.

I read somewhere that 70% of college students plagiarize assignments.

Hope that helps.
