In other words, if the Allies hadn't won World War I, what would the world be like? Did World War I cause World War II? What do schools teach kids in history class about this war? Anything else I should know?

If you could direct me to any helpful sites, that would also be great.

Thank you in advance!

I think that the world would be much the same, we would still have had a global depression, though Germany might not have fared so badly from it as they did in the historical past, but I think that a world war would have happened eventually, and if it had occurred at the same time WW2 did, it would have used the same technology that WW1 used, because there had not been a war already to have the advances.

For this reason, I believe that without WW1, we would be technologically at least 20 or 30 years backwards in the present day. War creates incentive for better technology, and it is in peacetime that that technology is innovated and adapted to non-war use.

Thinking about this I think that if the Allies had lost WW1 there can be three different branches of time. Each depends on what the US does, remain neutral, join Allies, or join Germany. Each would put forth a different path of development in Europe. I do feel that whichever path war with Japan was unavoidable. The US and Japan would have been at war with each other. It might have happened earlier or later.
Second Britian could become a dictatorship, but would war between Germany and Britian happened, unknown. Britian would not have had a large navy, but Germany would have. Would France have lost territory during the War. If so some part of France would have been in Germany instead. That could have lead to France being an aggresor state in Europe leading to another world war.
What would have happened in Russia, they had already backed out of the war, which side would Russia had been on, who would they have been allies with, Germany, USA, Britian, Japan, or some other country?
Truth is you could write several books and still not use all the ideas from this question.

the French would probably be speaking German. I predict the British would have eventually made peace with them.

The US wouldn't be a hegemony because Germany and Britain wouldn't have lost so much.

Hitler wouldn't have risen to power.

Maybe, just maybe, there wouldn't have been a Great Depression.

Schools teach that the war was caused by nationalism, alliances, militarism, and the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand.

they teach that WWI and the Treaty of Versailles caused so much German hatred that it led to WWII.

Hope that helps.
