My dream is to become a true author as my occupation. I have an excellent manuscript for my first book and like any first time entry, I am finding it very difficult to even get a literary representative to give me the time of day. That's without the agents even reading what I have written. If anyone can tell me what you have done in the same circumstance or if you are a literary agent and want an outstanding historical fiction to represent, then write me back.
I know this is the customary way to start out but hey it's worth a try! :)

Well, you're going about it the right way, but I must caution you that only 1% of published authors can live off of their writing. It is very, VERY difficult for a person to be able to write full-time. I'm not saying that you're not a brilliant writer, you might be, but all the same, I wouldn't quit your day job until the money starts flowing in. You'll get an advance if and when it sells, and then you'll not see another penny unless it outsells the advance, which most books, especially first books DO NOT DO.

Just a few words of advice/caution

It might be advisable to get a professional critique of your manuscript which you could then give to potential agents to substantiate your submission.
