enema is no longer used in hospitals anymore,my general experience is when you are going into labour your bowels will open themselves ,if you happened to go to the toilet whilst pushing its nothing unusual and the midwifes see this happen all the time, you will not even no your doing it as it gets wiped away and nothings said.i wouldnt be embarrassed by it as is natural in some cases.please do not even consider taking castor oil this can be very dangerous for you and the baby you may even get ostocolasis (it makes your liver function go wrong and end up with a itchy body which can be fatal for you both)also midwives will no you have had this.good luck and my advice would to be let nature take its course.

The lower bowel and the uterus are controlled by the same group of nerves.

You see this in practice when at the beginning of labour some women have a bout of diarrhoea.
In theory an enema or Castor oil or anything that gives you a dose of "the runs" could start labour. But only if your ready to go into labour

It's not particularly pleasant though -best just go for a walk.

Giving an enema to women overdue or in the very early stages used to be regarded as normal practise, but in reality it was only done to avoid the embarrassment of mum soiling herself during labour. This, however, is perfectly normal and your midwife will not bat an eyelid and will have you all cleaned up even before you realise what has happened, that is if you do realise, which you probably won't. Good Luck and relax.xx

I don't think so, but the point of giving an enema prior to labor is to not have #2 slip out while delivering the baby.

no, it's given to you in hospitle to clear out your bowls, before you go into labour, as every thing that is in you during labour will come out there and then so it's best to get it out before hand.

No, they say the same about Castor Oil, but all it really does is clear out all the poop from you; not the baby.
