Why not give her a one off treat? Some ideas are -
- Breakfast in bed
- Day at a spa
- Clean the car
- A beauty treatment; manicure, haircut etc
- Make her a scrapbook of nice memories you've had together
- Take her out somewhere nice for lunch/dinner
- Buy her an 'experience package' (Boots/Argos etc); day at a wine vineyard, professional photograph taken etc
- Make her something; picture frame, jewellery, paint a picture
- Make her a CD of her favourite songs
I hope this helps!

My mom likes to garden, so one year I put together a cute little giftbasket full of things like seeds, bulbs, super cute gardening gloves I handpainted, flower and vegie themed notes and cards, and whatever else I could find at the time that made it fun. Wrapped up in some see through celophane, tied with a pretty ribbon, it was a big hit.
Find something your Mom is passionate about, and see how many things you can find to fill up a gift basket! One or two nicer things can be filled in with lots of little inexpensive yet thoughtful items.

I like the photo idea (above) but also what I did for my mum (she died just before my last round at Uni) was to also get a couple of little other items, and for the big thing, ask what she might want or need. She would always come up with something. A couple times I bought her relatively inexpensive gold jewelry (not diamonds on a uni budget of course).
You will never regret anything you do for your mum!

take the same route as you do for birthdays, look for something that is really appropriate for the person. You can offer her something you know she wants but would never buy for herself. Or you can get tickets for an event to attend together, like a concert or lecture. Or you can just agree to spend the entire day with her doing what she wants: cooking, shopping, museums, spa, whatever.

spa pamper treatment are always a hit with my mum.
a trip to hair dressers on you may also be good.
if she has any hobbies try base it round that.
all mums like ot be pampered from time to time.if cant afford a treatment why not do it yourslef. i always give mum a manicure or pedicure when has a do to go to or about to go on holiday etc.
you could always take her out for lunch.
good luck, you only have 1 mum so make her feel spoilt and loved!

Instead of a card I usually give a bunch of bananas with "Happy Mother's Day" written on them in biro. Then my mum can actually eat her "card" instead of chucking it in the bin in a week's time - thus wasting two quid.

Although not unusual, a photo of you and your brothers and sisters just to remind her that her kids are watching over her. Just choose a nice frame...or...a nice piece of poetry that you write yourself as this is personalised as you can get and has been made just for one person to celebrate her being a mum
