or do a lot of the newer "rock" bands sound almost exactly alike?

No, Vera Lynne, it is not just you who thinks that, because they really do. Worse yet is RAP. That stuff all sounds alike. I can't understand how some of these lowlife bands and rejects from American Idol get record companies to sign them. I if I were them, I would be embarresed to be onstage. How about that oriental guy that got rejected a few years ago. He was on Larry King Live, 2 months ago and that was a real joke.

its not just you, alot of newer bands use power chords, and simple triads, they dont explore music to much. so it all sounds repetative because they are all playing the same chords and notes, just mixing them around.

not only the music, but the vocals, too!! C'mon all you new musicians out there---you are in a creative industry where you are expected to 'find your own voice." Do it. Please! (except for James Blunt whose original surname is Blount---please, feel free to use someone else's voice!)
