I have heard the seals will dry out.

It shouldn't ruin it. They sit in showrooms for months. What will happen is that the water trapped the the unit (with some food particles) will start to smell after a while. It you are not going to use it for and extended period put in a little bleach.

nope- seriously, new types of ruuber have been invented that don't break down as easily as older door seals and gaskets. This used to be true of appliances 15-20 years ago- but new appliances usually get replaced before their gaskets and door seals do now.

No.Mine set for longer than that when we last moved. Just put a little detergent in it and run it through a wash cycle before you start using it.The pump and seals in it should be fine.

I don't know if it will ruin it but it will get dirty and be a nice hiding place for creatures

that is a load of poo. i once slept with an appliance repair man, and he said that is not true.
