It is. My concern is that not everyone wants to be included and when it is felt that it is being forced down ones throat then it becomes an issue.
My motto is live and let live, but don't try to force me to join your cause. If I want to I will, but I don't have to and you should abide by that decision.

I sure thought it was. I know that's how I was brought up and my parents are split party-wise.
I don't understand why people don't embrace people from other cultures then claim they're true patriotic Americans. (I don't mean illegal immigration, I won't speak of that here because it's a different ball game).
But I enjoy meeting people from other lands and cultures. I think we need more to drown out this racist view we have all over the country now.
{edit}
To the person below me:
If it wasn't for taking up cultures from other countries think of the difference in this country. People came from all over in the early 1900's and brought their country with them. Thanks to them this country had a new, motivated workforce to build the country up. I think you owe them, in fact. Besides, if you're not far removed from immigrant parents, then think about any sort of meal your parents/grandparents fixed that was from their country. Now get rid of it. Why? Because apparently you have to leave what makes you YOU at the door.
What an ignorant view. I'm embarrassed to have you in the same country as me.
{Edit 2}
Once again, there's a difference between bringing culture with you and whining that not enough people speak Spanish in America. I just think we should be accepting of cultures and the passing on of that culture. Like my friend who's 3/4 Iroquois and she still gets very good traditional meals from her parents. They're delicious. But if you're going to talk about people who bring their culture and expect Americans to give up their culture for immigrant culture, that's a different ball game also.

Come to America and join in.
We do allow others to ware their home-land clothing , establish groups, religious services/buildings as they wish, recognize their own 'holidays', eat their own diets, speak their own language among themselves...basically, everything they had or did at home except those things that are not illegal in our country.
This puts them in a group (pigeon-hole) of their own and providing their customs are not repulsive, no one really cares and most find it interesting. All we ask is that they speak English so we can communicate and follow US laws and they are expected to show due respect for our social customs and pledge some kind of allegiance to the US. ( if one wishes to pledge allegiance to their homeland, they need to go back. why are they here if they do not respect the US? )
We (US) are viewed as intolerant because immigrants are demanding that society and government and laws be altered to provide them with things that are not "American" or customary or provided to native born Americans. When they insist on special treatment, they put themselves into a negative 'pigeon hole'.
In recent years, foreigners -I call them that because they do not wish to be American- have made unreasonable demands and our courts are such idiotic fools, they are giving in to them. This causes resentment toward the foreigners and reflects on everyone of that nationality.

No the USA is not about embracing cultural diversity, it's tolerance of other cultures, being a Cajun to me there is no other cultures I like and the blacks & Mexican have the worst and all the forging cultures are just bad and have you ever smelled them or their food most of it stinks.
Edit
I don't know about the rest of my fellow Americans, yes my ancestors came to America and the flood of people in the 1900. But now the people and their children from about 1950 are the true Americans, the people that came last year or 5 years ago are not true Americans now they will be in 50 or 60 years from now.
SO HURRAY FOR THE CAJUNS OF AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For over 150 years immigrants came to this country to learn english, get jobs, and become antiqueted to the American lifestyle. Today........people come to this country expecting everybody to be tollerant of them and THEIR culture! If not then they take you to court for discriminating against them! It would be the same as if thousands of Americans immigrated to France each year, and then complained that not enough French people spoke English! So my personal opinion is if you want to immigrate to America then great! We'd love to have you! But get a job, learn English, and follow OUR laws! And that if you feel so strongly about how much better things are in Europe, Africa, or wherever you came from.....then GO BACK!

you're real, variety is fairly puzzling to regulate, and raging racists and ignorant human beings make it that plenty extra good. yet additionally think of approximately it this way. confident the U. S. does have it alot extra good than different worldwide places in terms of cultural matters in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it has additionally delivered u.s. to larger point. a point above different homogenous worldwide places. I belive u.s. is plenty extra cutting-edge in that's experience of variety. the single unifier of each and all of the yank human beings is probable the fourth of July. each and every American is proud to be a factor of the rustic that defeated the British (by way of the Fench ofcourse) with the help of struggling with for its real of representation, equality and freedom. whether you're an immigrant or descendent of pilgrims each and every American identifies with this victory. i think that u.s.'s means to maintain a fashion of existence and team spirit thoroughly removed from race is admirable. that's something that may no longer in simple terms in keeping with how the standard public of the countrymen look, act and worship yet quite in a thought shared between an entire u . s . a . that transcends genders, races, politcal events. Its alluring... i understand that have been given slightly cheesy in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's real. i think that variety is substantial. I mean now that folk have been shifting all over the area for hundreds of years i think of its suitable we make the suitable of it.

America is all about embracing racial diversity, not cultural diversity. You are welcome in the nation as long as you leave you traditions and cultures in your homeland.
America has a long history of assimilation, that we can see continuing today.

Because racism still exists, people still teach it to their children, though most of the time it is quiet and only spoken in the homes.
