Honestly, I find that a man's view of a woman's occupation, once married, actually comes from his mother. I first heard on Oprah that a man actually looks for the qualities in a marriage partner that reflect that of his mother, and since I applied that concept to myself and other people I know, I have been right! For instance, my husband has been very supportive of my persuing a degree and a career, but he also is open and accepting of me staying at home as a mom (which I have mostly done recently). But if you ask someone else if it is important if their spouse works, chances are you'll find they had a working mother, too.

Well personally I'm a homemaker and the wife of a deployed soldier. This is the hardest job I've EVER had and I used to be a full time soldier. A homemaker IS a working woman. We work harder then anyone else. We get no benefits, no pay, no breaks, no sickdays, and no days off. No 9-5er could do have the things I do on a daily basis. But no matter how tired or frustrated I am at the end of the day when my little girl kisses me goodnight as I put her in her crib it makes all of it worth it and then some. Come to think of it I get the best benefits in the world.

When we had small kids it was not worth her working. She did more house work then.

Now she works and we split house work.

Things work different for different couples. Does the wife want to work? Does she make enough to pay for the expenses caused by working? She may also need to be out around people this way to have some sort of social life outside the house. She has friends at work she likes to go do things with and we can go as couples even sometimes.

What works at your house is up to the couple.

I guess it depends on the guy and the situation.
Both my wife and I work. She makes more than I do so if one were to stay home it would probably be me. It costs more to live here than in other parts of the country and we own a house and with no kids so we both need to work.

It depends on the man and what the woman is doing for work.
