I would go with Kovalchuk. The guy has so much torque on his stick that its practically bending perpendicular so to speak. When Kovalchuk gets his best slapshot off, the goalie either doesn't know its coming or he does and he's doing his best to get the heck out of the way!!!

There are 2 Fowards with the best slaphot in the NHL right now. 1 in the West and 1 in the East.
Brian Rolston is the one in the West, he has so much control with his slapshot and is reliable on the powerplay. The absence of Rolston hurts the Wild a lot because the lose that shot on the Power Play and in other scoring chances, but Demitra and Gaborik can hold the fort.
With the East it's Chad Kilger of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I know what you're thinking, WHO? Chad Kilger is a 2nd line forward for Toronto who shot 103 mph at the Maple Leafs Skills Comp last year. He has featured his slapshot in games, but hes so under the radar that no one knows him. Hes played for 3 canadian teams and was drafted by an American Team. He's played for Winnipeg, now the Coyotes, Toronto, and Montreal.
Peace

Heatley would be my answer. Might not be the hardest, but has the quickest release. You never think the shot is going to make it or he is going to be late ... but look at his goals over the past two seasons. No I am not a Ottawa fan ... just a hockey player and a fan.
