It can be a good thing. My mother had a friend in the USA [i'm in the UK], and they sent each other parcels filled with presents for their children's christmas, and letters, and stuff like that.
It is a good idea, but always be wary about who you talk to online because that 23-year-old salon worker could be a 58-year-old sleazy rapist.

Making friends anywhere, if they are nice people is always good. I have met some wonderful friends from all over the world through chat. You must not get carried away tho, cause chatting is one thing, and moving away to another part of the world on a whim, could be dangerous.

i met someone 10 years ago in a chat roomand we have been super close ever since... but, when i met him, i was 15... i talked and chatted online only with him for 7 years... he knew more about me than most, but he said he was from england so i never had or needed a reason to give him any personal info... so after 7 years, i was now 22 and we decided to talk on the phone.. and his # and british accent proved her was real... we sent a few pics back and forth and then 2 years later he was planning a trip to the states, only 2 hours from me... so, me and my HUSBAND drove out to meet him... and had a lovely time... 1 year later, he and i are still very close, but we took things easy and nice and slow and didn't do anything silly... some people are genuine, but most are not.... just be smart about everything you talk about and say... and also, i am now 25, so i waited several llooonnngg years before disclosing anything of importance... however, he is one of my best friends and wouldn't trade him for the world.. so, just be careful but sure, make some friends.....

I think it's okay just as long as u don't tell them what your address and city are. There are a bunch of weirdos if you know what I mean out there. Try 2 hang with your REAL friends. Their more fun.

I BELONG TO A CHAT ROOM RUN BY A PERSON, NOT BY A ISP. WE ALL HAVE BECOME GREAT FRIENDS AND ARE ALWAYS THERE TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT. THE FACT IT IS PRIVATELY RUN HAS HELPED TO KEEP IT A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT.

There is a good side and a bad side.

Good side being that you made a friend! :D

The down side is that you have a chance getting cheated by the other party.
