Well, I just checked the rate, and it is at 116.7yen = $1.00

That is a little deceptive because they add a 3yen per dollar service fee when you exchange both ways. So, if you are exchanging US$ into Japanese Yen, and the exchange rate is 116-$1, you are actually getting only 113 yen to the dollar. If you are going the other way around, and exchanging Japanese yen into US$ and the rate is $1.00-116yen you will be paying 119 yen to get $1.00.

The best way would be for you to find someone in Japan who is a friend and do a straight exchange so you don't lose that service fee. It would need to be with someone that needed US$ of course.

Hope that helps.

Last time I checked, the currency rate was 116.75.

But if you are asking what you can buy with a dollar in Japan...not much. You would not even be able to buy a can of coke (it costs 120 yen)!!

1 US Dollar = 116.815 Japanese Yen

1 Japanese Yen (JPY) = 0.008561 US Dollar (USD)

Interbank rate +/- %

This means:
You buy 1 US Dollar : 116.815 Japanese Yen
You sell 1 US Dollar : 116.785 Japanese Yen
You buy 1 Japanese Yen : 0.008561 US Dollar
You sell 1 Japanese Yen : 0.008563 US Dollar

Median price = 116.785 / 116.815 (bid/ask)
Minimum price = 116.670 / 116.680
Maximum price = 116.790 / 116.820

♡At this moment it's 116.74 yen to the dollar...BUT!
It is constantly changing.
You can check the current prices on line at:
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency
~And the current price isn't usually what you get when you exchange. It's slightly more.(*^o^*)
Hope this helps!♡

for an easy, quick estimate take the decimal out of the amount of dollars and you have the amount in yen. ex: $1.00=100Yen

*Not the most acurate but the easiest way to get an idea of how much you are paying
