Here are the tools I use to copy DVDS for my own personal back ups. I know some folks do not trust some sites due to all the junk spyware out there and virus stuff. But look at my answer history, you will see that I can be trusted. D/load the free protection I recomend. I trust the programs I mention below and use them. I also believe in try before you buy.

http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html......... - DVD Shrink Freeware will copy most DVDs but there are some it will not copy.

http://www.slysoft.com/?aid=50549.......... - AnyDVD and CloneDVD
These 2 programs are great, 21 day free trial, and I have them both. AnyDVD and CloneDVD they will take off encryption and protection.
Just bought An American Haunting and DVD Shrink would not copy it, but these 2 programs no problem. Have not had any movie yet they could not copy.

download a file sharing program called uTorrent (utorrent.com)...in my opinion it's the best one..easy to use, doesnt slow your computer down, and doesnt open your computer up to whoever isout there NEARLY as much as limewire, etc...you only download and upload what you select where as others will upload pretty much anything on your computer that matches someone's search field......using uTorrent you can download movies, and if you want to follow jcp1992's advice on rentiing movies and copying, you can use uTorrent to find two programs...first is DVD Decryter or DVDFab Decrypter....these will rip the DVD files to your harddrive while pulling off copyright and regional restrictions so when you try to burn them your computer wont say "Hey!! I cant do that, this is copyrighted!!"....also download DVD Shrink....this program will take the DVD files you ripped to your hard drive and shrink them down to the size of blank DVDs you can purchase....most DVD movies are 6-8GB, most blank DVDs you buy are 4.7GB....when shrinking down the movies you can pull out any extra stuff you dont want (foriegn language tracks, extra features, etc..) to make the file it's compressing smaller giving you a better quality movie...well...video/audio wise it doesnt make a difference, but if you compress and entire DVD w/o taking off any extras, soemtimes the disc will skip on cheaper DVD players....I'll usually just copy the main movie, i dont care too much about the fancy menus, etc...

the best way to burn movies is to get a 55 gallon steel drum, poke some holes in the sides about a foot off the ground (for ventilation) and stuff the bottom with kindling ..use lighter fluid and a match if you haven't the patience to wait, and once the fire is started, toss the films in one reel at a time and stand back because the smell of burning film is really nasty..i can recommend one to get the blaze going...forrest gump!

A friend of mine uses a program called 'Bit Comet' then if you go to a site www.torrentz.com and you click on a film to download after you do a search, Bit Comet will automatically take on that download.
