1) The Truman Doctrine:

You can look up about the Truman Doctrine, but it basically said that the U.S. would fight against countries that tried to oppress other countries. This was clearly an anti-communist statement and (almost) a declaration of war against Russia. Russia (the U.S.S.R) was Communist and we were capitalist. Also, we had used an atom bomb, the only country to do so, and thus felt we could apply even more pressure against the U.S.S.R. expanding in Europe.

2) Conflict over Berlin

After WWII, Berlin was annexed into several zones. Russia wanted to control all of Berlin, and eventually the Russians blockaded it. The U.S.A.F. started the largest airlift in history, the Berlin Airlift to keep the people alive in the city.

Those are just two WWII events, but there are others, like Russia's refusal of Marshall aid that you can look up.

Good luck!

Russia was upset about the US using the atomic bomb on Japan. They were worried we would use it on them.

n 1945, just after World War II, the alliance between the United States, Britain and the USSR ended. An intense rivalry between communist and non-communist nations led to the Cold War. It's called the Cold War because it never led to armed or "hot" conflict. At the end of World War II, at the Yalta Conference, Germany was divided into four occupied zones controlled by Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, and the United States. Berlin was also divided into four sections. Lack of a mutual agreement on German re-unification marked the start of the Cold War. When the USA decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, the USSR was upset that America had secretly developed the bomb. Churchill, Truman and Britain's Atlee were angry that Stalin had already signed a border treaty agreement with Poland.

After Germany was defeated the US and UK asked Soviet Union to help them defeat Japan, telling them that they would get more land if they helped. Well then Japan was defeated. Soviet Union wanted to make sure that the Germans never tried to attack them again, so they wanted to have control of it. Other Allies thought that they were having too much power. They split Germany into 4 zones (later just two zones, West Germany and East Germany) and the city of Berlin which was in East Germany, was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin. I dont know if all of that is right. Just trying to put what I do remember about 8th grade history.

Well, the Russians were mad at the way we entered WWII. They felt that we entered too late and that we took the slow way into entering the war. They felt that we shouldn't have entered through Italy.
