I really don't know much about Hispanic voting entirely, but a lot of close-knit communities do the same thing. They simply want a representative that truly represents them and their interests. It's how the Irish in the North got themselves out of the lower classes in America. The interesting one is the Italians, who tend to vote *against* Italian candidates, this becomes more prevalent the more south you go in Italy. Basically, the politicians leave a bad taste in their mouths due to corruption, so when they're here they remember the politicians from the old country and say "No Thanks" at the ballot box.
BTW, even if your numbers are right, so what? It's their vote, are they supposed to set aside a given number of votes for non-Hispanic candidates?

Power, why else? Having a candidate that is of your ethnicity gives hope for more equality and more accessability to rights. Why would hispanics continue to vote for someone outside their own ethnicity where they could be denied certain rights downright, when they can vote for someone of their own ethnicity and possibly gain more presence in the government (which all ethnicities that aren't in the political majority do strive for). They, this way, will have a chance to have someone represent their own interest.

Probably for the same reason that homophobic white male christians vote for the homophobic white male christian above all else, including competency.
Oh, and what DavidC said. Provide a link to your source for these numbers, please. They seem highly skewed to reflect a personal opinion rather than a fact. I'd like to see which organization sponsored this study, if it was a study at all.

ETA: "Any politician will tell you" is not a source. Since when has ANY politician been known for their honesty and integrity? Puh-lease.

Where do you get this crap? Who says 90 per cent of Hispanics vote for Hispanics? And extreme language like "always, above all else" leads me to hold serious doubts about your intelligence.

I don't think your statistics are even close. I know that some do because the candidates name ends in a z, but I doubt 90% of anyone does anything.

What proof do you have that Hispanic voters vote for members of their own race more often than any other voters?

If it's true, it's probably got something to do with them being under represented in government right now.
