There was a time when alcohol was illegal and people went around in back alleys to get the stuff. Now alcohol is big among the big companies. So if marijuana would become legal, there would be no need for anyone sell the product on the streets. It would be just another product on the shelves like cigarettes and alcohol. Think about it, all of it has its negative affects. Might as well make marijuana illegal. There would also be fewer people in prison for selling the stuff.
What if cigarettes and alcohol were suddenly illegal, because of what harm they do to people and their families. The prisons would definitely increase with number of dealers who would sell cigarettes and alcohol in back alleys, not to mention middle class citizens who would purchase these items.

I think it should be legal. It was made illegal at the behest of Dupont who wanted to eliminate competition for their nylon rope. In addition, it was a convenient way to suppress mexican american unionizing farm workers and harass blacks.
In terms of social harm, of course, there is no contest between marijuana and alcohol or cigarettes. Both the latter cause far more destruction, death, broken homes.
Marijuana is a threat to both the legal recreational and legal therapeutic drugs. Those who make money off the legal drugs work extremely hard to keep MJ illegal.
Incidentally, in Jamaica, the rastafarian marijuana smokers are the healthiest, wealthiest, and high achieving group.

Yes! I think it should be legalized. I am not a smoker either, but it would bring in extra tax money, more jobs , prisons and jails would have the room for dangerous members of society. I know many smokers who are very successful in life, so I don't think it makes everyone lazy like your first answerer has stated.

no, It should remain illegal. All we needs to do is stopping sending people to jail. It should be a fine, but no jail.
If we make it legal, we will be like 3rd world countries like Columbia, where they can't get the farmers to grow food because there is more money to be made growing drugs.

..I am a pot smoker,i am still not sure if it should be legal!! It can lead to other crimes, exchange for other drugs weapons etc....however if it is legalized it should be monitored, you do not want to see kids/teenagers turn into pot heads!!!But I do believe it should be used for medical treatment!!!!!!

No, it really is quite destructive .... also it attracts unsavoury types...
It was in Nepal, I believe, where they legalised it at one point and then had to make it illegal again because all the unkempt vagabond dope addicts swarmed into their area and started ruining it for the residents ....
