Seriously, my wife was working a crossword puzzle and she needed to find the chemical element for a protein of some sort to complete the puzzle and my 5 year old son wanted to now how the little balls fit together and what purpose they served. So, I asked him if he wanted to learn to split the atom and he said yes. So, is there a website a Daddy could send his 5 year old son to in order to learn how to split the atom?

Note: Creating a "self sustaining chain-reaction" is very difficult, however it is relatively easy to cause uranium or plutonium to undergo fission (at a slow rate), by bombarding it with neutrons. These neutrons can come from a source such as Californium-252. Of course, I would not recommend doing this, since you are still going to need a number of very expensive, and dangerously radioactive components.

Try http://library.thinkquest.org/17940/texts/fission/fission.html?tqskip1=1&tqtime=0827.

This shows animation for both fission and fusion. Plus it has words for dad to read. Great job, dad.
