The sad part about this, yes it is a shame, but the left which touts money saved by closing bases and cutting military budgets these organizations now become an issue to the left. Also with the left that wants to cut funds for Iraq who do you think it would effect, the same thing we are all clamoring about at Walter Reed.
Amazing the left only know Care's when it is political effective. Where were they through the 90's when they were slashing Military Budgets and these cuts lay the ground work for where we are now...

Walter Reed is going to be closed, but until it is closed people receiving treatment there need care. Medical Care is part of the defense budget.
Walter Reed was one of the first army hospitals to move to a large percentage of civilian, including decision making positions. I hope it is the last.

If Walter Reed is going to be shut down then shut the thing down and send the troops to its replacement but don't send injured troops there to try to heal their broken bodies while they are inhaling mold and praying that the ceiling above them doesn't fall on their heads and if they do manage to live thru that then have their paperwork screwed up or wait in line for months just to receive the physical therapy or emotional help and support that is crucial to their well being.....
If your community hospital had those same conditions would you send your loved ones there? Troops deserve the same care that YOU receive at your local or community hospital.

I hope they tear it down. One side of the story I haven't heard is where it's located is one of the scariest neighborhoods I've seen. DC politicians should be ashamed and how bad the crime, schools, living conditions, are in D.C.
