My only real challengs were I came from a private, small school and than went from there to a state university where there was a small city of people. In fact my first class was in a forum hall and there were as many people in that class alone as were in my whole High School 9-12 grade. It was overwheliming but I sat up front, made a friend the first day and had to come out of my shell a little bit because up till college I was terribly shy so I started talking to people.

Most people first face difficulties adjusting to the new environment....some have to make totally new friends, that can be hard if you're not the social type. Also most people enter college just after leaving high-school, that can be a bad thing for some, since they might still have a bit of their "childish" side. So you can be in college still reading about comic books..and that tend to make your life in college different, cause most kids will be on the party level. lol. i'm not in college yet

Okay well I haven't been to college yet but my cousin has and these are some things she faced. Being a way from here boyfriend,(who she is now marrying) not seeing her mom and dad in the evenings, missed everything at home, (she don't party to much) so it was that at night she didn't get much sleep, or study time.

the way i cope with it was to pay attention to the classes really, and not be distracted by the non-sense around me. i kept a few friends within my circle, cause you don't need anyone knowing all your business. i play sports and read a lot at the library about secret societies like skull and bones, mi5 and freemasonry and how they control america's destiny....i kept to myself most of the time cause i know too much for my own good. i guess you can sum it up, and come up with a simple answer...to just be cool, be yourself and stay in the classroom.

Being immature, and from a small town with strict parents, couldn't
cope with the freedom and availablility of stuff you aren't spose to
have (booze and chicks --I'm from the olden days) overcame them
when I enlisted, put 20 years in the Navy, retired and got a partial
(Associates Degree)education.

My biggest problem was my friends, most of whom didn't attend college and were constantly bugging me to go out or otherwise interrupt me, because they didn't have to worry about studying.
Sometimes it seemed like they wanted me to flunk out.
If you move away for college, that won't be a problem though.
