I think Tom leads because we always follow his attempts and plots to catch Jerry. However, I think that Jerry is the protagonist because we're always rooting for him. I'm not sure if that's contradictory, but that's what I think.

Jerry mouse is the lead tom is his enemy of course but Jerry was first introduced as a mouse with no name at all and tom's original name was jasper and spike first name was killer....so that's how it goes and spike's other names were butch than finally spike and then he had his son tyke.....

I would say Tom because his name is first in the title, but Jerry is my favorite.

Both of them. If your name is in the title, you have a leading role (ex:Hansel and Gretal)...Without one or the other, it wouldnt be much of a show..!
