Grade III Ankle Sprain:
Grade III ankle sprains are complete tears of the ligaments. The ankle is usually quite painful, and walking can be difficult. Patients may complain of instability, or a giving-way sensation in the ankle joint.
Grade III ankle sprains require extensive therapy and protection. The ankle is wrapped in a soft cast and a protective boot for 2 weeks.
Weightbearing is begun when the patient is comfortable. Full weight can be placed on the ankle with comfort. At two weeks, physical therapy exercises are done to increase range of motion, decrease pain and inflammation and increase stability. No side to side motion is permitted for one month and average return to activity is at 6 to 8 weeks. An ankle brace is worn for 3 months following injury during sports.

Obviously the upper body and ab stuff is a given. If you have access to a pool I would do that with minimal kicking of the injured leg. I would try a stationary bike but again only with minimal use of the other leg. Other then that I would stay off it since the potential of more damage should outweigh your spring prep.

Running is out of the question until your ankle has completely healed. If you rush it, it can make it worse and delay the healing process. You may try and exercise the upper body only. I hope this has helped you. Good Luck!

Ask your doctor! I too exercise my boredom away, and for fun, okay...... I'm nuts about exercise! I just plain like the results, energy, stamina, feels good, and looks good. BUT if you go to fast you WILL have the surgeory I had from an EASIER sprain than yours, that will drive you nuts!!! Don't piss that thing off!
Good luck and patience,... not patients to you.

You can do ab work.
Also, work out your upper body. I wouldn't use free weights though. Use machines, just put the pin in place and lift, it will not affect your ankle.
