The public reaction to Vista has generally been lukewarm. Professional reviewers in newspapers, TV etc are not very impressed. The single biggest problem for most people is that many of their peripherals - printers, scanners etc - will not work in Vista because the manufacturers have not written (or refuse to write) Vista drivers. The XP drivers will usually not work in Vista. If you really want Vista, check CAREFULLY before you get it that Vista drivers are available for your printer etc.

Personally I've gone over to Linux, which is a cool OS which is totally immune to viruses, malware, spyware etc. Some people say Linux is difficult to use, but I haven't found it difficult at all, just different. No more difficult to learn than switching from Windows to Mac - that's a good way of looking at it.
