Certainly not.
We are seeing them attempt to get control of the internet. But it is still too big. And government control is not what the neocons want. They want to control it themselves and are using the government, the media, and the internet providers to gain that control. The internet is the last oasis of truth that stands in the way of their controlling absolutely everything we see and hear. Not that everything on the internet is true, but the truth is here and they just cannot stand it.

No, the government should NOT have control over the internet. I believe in net neutrality. Check out the the website I've listed below for everything you could possibly want to know as to why I feel this way and why everyone else should also.
Also, Google Robert McChesney. He's a leading opponent to government control over the internt.

The Internet is world - wide. How do you think the U.S. Government could control it? Maybe Congress could pass a law that lists the sites we can see and the ones we cant? Maybe disconnect all the wires that go overseas? Set up electronic interference with satellite signals? Will other nations tolerate U.S. control?
Do you really want to see our last means of free speech and free communication regulated?
You have picked a loser, my friend. This is one topic that is useless for debate. Why don't you see if you can switch positions.

Yes, I think they should. There needs to be some sort of ability to filter content and protect children from pornography and predators.
I think the FCC should get inolved and make adult sites use .xxx or .adlt. That way ISPs could offer family package type services and you'd pay extra to have the ability to use the adult content sites. Just like people do with cable. I also think they should be limited to what type of advertising they can do on the Internet in general.
There also needs to be controls to help protect our children from sexual predators. Perhaps some sort of identity checking, confirmed emails, waiting sevearl days prior to being able to use a chat engine while your information is verified. If you are legit...you won't care.
Some will say that the bad guys will always find a way around the laws...this is true. But that's not an excuse for just giving up or not standing up for what is right.
I know there are many who want to keep the Internet as it is, but right now kids are in danger of getting too much information and being victims of savvy online perverts. That alone requires that adults give up some of their freedoms in order to protect our children. We should all care about children as they are the future of our country.
One more note...spyware...that should be illegal. Much of this stuff is downloaded, without your permission, onto your property. I think there should be laws about that as well. No one should be allowed to install something on your computer secretly that tracks your internet usage.

I think people that send spam or create viruses should be locked up in a cave in Iraq with no computer. Don't put them in jail where they have access to the Internet and more time on their hands to do their evil deeds.
As for screening pornography - can't be done 1st amendment rights remember.
Protecting our children from predators - there are laws in place, they just need to be enforced. Parents need to get off their butts and do some parenting instead of asking the government to do their jobs.

It all about what you call control. Do you want crimes to committed on the net? Or do you want child porno on the net?
When you want some of the things not to happen on the net, then you must give control to someone to control these things.
Yet I do not want the government to read every one of my emails just to be nosy. But computers can do that and point out the things that are a crime.

and nobody/..no country can control the entire net work (Internet) of the world.... BUT...the .company/organization who has got permission from their own country to provide the network (Internet) to their people/ inside their own country....have the right to block, or controls it....as well as their own government.

there are no pros. and if anyone that thinks this is a good idea they also need to take into account that the U.S. isn't the only country that uses the internet.

Absolutely not. America is not the world. Why do Americans think that they know what is best for the rest of the world.
