Like others said, it is because humans are uncomfortable with the unknown. The unknown and that which is a known risk are the two things that scare us. We are afraid to accept something new because we don't know what it may cause and what may happen. With the old stuff that we are used to, we know what will happen and how to handle it so we are comfortable with that.

Most people have a comfort zone built around them as they grow up, and people don't like to not be comfortable. Many people have found out that stepping out of your comfort zone can have blessings they didn't even think of. An example, a person takes up running, (definitely outside my comfort zone), and meets a person they never would have met if they had stayed in their comfort zone, but because they stepped out of their comfort zone they received more than the desired benefit. But even knowing the desired benefits, and knowing that unexpected benefits could happen, most people don't want to chance discomfort.

New things disturb people's frames of mind. It shocks them to think that what has been is not always to be, throws them into a state of uncertainty and forces them to question the validity of what they have been taught, to confront what was assumed to be established beyond all doubt.

i'd have to agree with you. its like when something, big or small, changes, it feels like everything else is going to change. its probably then when they feel like they like the old scene.
