Boy oh boy, do I agree with you. The adults are bad enough but now you go places and see smaller kids with cell phones...
Its a bad thing when a school has to take cell phones until school is over that day....
I see people in stores talking on the phone and they look like they are talking to themselves. Cars and cell phones are still a problem also...
One day in church while our Pastor was giving his sermon, someones cell phone started ringing. He said, "If that is not Jesus, don't answer it".... Can't people even go to church for an hour without their phone?
We didn't have cell phones in the past and the people's worlds didnt crumble...
I don't own one, don't need it... You posted a good question

I notice that teens are usually the ones that literally cry if they don't have their cell phone attached to their heads at all times. I don't understand what is so important that they must even take their phones to school! I do have one, but I intentionally leave mine at home when I just don't want to be bothered.
When I was young, there wasn't such a thing as even a touch tone phone. We had the dial phones, with a cord attached so if you were talking on the phone, you had to stand right by the phone. Cordless wasn't until many years later.

I think for some people it's becoming like a security blanket. Some people just can't handle being alone in any situation and make up for it by being on the phone when there's nobody in the vasinity to talk to.
Also, I think some people are workaholic narsasists that think their company will shut down if they aren't constantly checking up on people.
I don't have a cell phone, because I don't feel the need to call people that often, and I don't have a phone in my house because I don't want to pay phone bills every month. I have skype to talk to my family back home, and msn to talk to my friends, I think that's enough, and if I want to hang out with some people I just invite them over. easy enough.

True.
The real sign of importance is being *unreachable*. Can you reach the Pres of the US? Madonna? Spielberg? No.
But we little people want to seem important. The cell phone, we think, means that we can afford some fancy technology, even if it's not really fancy anymore. Everyone has one, so how can it be special? But we don't want to seem poor, which is what you would seem if you don't have a cell phone.
I'd rather be *unreachable*. To quote the old folks, the phone is for *my* convenience, not that of the person calling me.

I have a cell phone that aint even got a battery. I just walk around going, "Yes governor. Right Governor. You bet. Yeah, I'll tell the president you said hello. I'm sure he'll understand. Excuse me governor, the president is beeping in. Hello, Mr. president....... ".
It makes me feel as if I ain't just some little insignificant dot on the face of this great earth. And, of course, everyone who hears believes me.

I guess I'm more important then any president of any country then because my cell is constantly ringing ... I know for me I've had a cell fone for so long I'm lost without it ... it's also great for emergencies like breaking down on the side of the road ... so stop being such a hater

I never got this impression that people feel they are important, but you may have a point. I have seen people actually in the grocery store blabbing. You can't turn your phone off for 30 minutes..Jupiter..
