The natural sound of your voice comes from your diaphragm. It is just above your stomach. If you force your voice, your throat will shred. The true voice comes from relaxing and breathing properly. A voice coach works wonders.

You don't actually sing from your throat or your stomach, but rather, you push air out, either directly from your lungs, or from your stomach. Breathing in and out from your stomach is the best way to project your singing voice. The next time you sing, put your hand on your stomach. Your stomach should be going in and out as you sing. If it isn't, then you are probably singing from your lungs, especially if your chest is expanding and contracting as you sing. You will get more power for your singing, if you sing from your stomach.
