She's a cutter. She keeps telling me that she wants to stop but she can't. She doesn't do it deep and she does it in places where it's easily covered up. Like, on her legs and her upper arms. She tells me she wants to stop...people see but they don't say anything to her. I'm really worried about her, so are some of her other closer friends. What can I do? She doesn't want to tell her mom.

You are right to be concerned. Any person who injures themselves on purpose has a problem to be dealt with. She is feeling a pain on the inside that feels better when she hurts herself on the outside! She needs help but is embarressed to ask for it, even if she knew how to...Im sure it is very hard. She is lucky to have a friend that will not stand by and let her continue to be in pain. You must talk to someone that has her happiness in mind. The cutting will only get worse if she doesnt deal with the underlying issue!! People don't hurt themselves for no reason. There are professionals out there that can help her. Talk to her and tell her you want to help her find a way she can stop. Be her shoulder and strength. She will need you while she is going through all this.. I will be praying for her!!

Talk to her and tell her that she needs to tell her mom or you will because this kind of behavior is not good for her. Let her know that you are there for her and your doing this because you want to help her, that she means the world to you and you don't want to see her go through this pain. If she doesn't tell her mom you should do it might not be your place to step into but she needs help and even though she might be mad at you now in the long run she will be thankful that you saved her from herself. I know that I would want my friends to do the same for me and you would want her to do the same for you. She crying for help by cutting herself so help her. Good Luck.

Your friend is putting herself in danger by cutting and I think you know that, if she doesn't feel comfortable or safe enough to tell her mom then you need to convince her and her other friends to talk to another trusted adult.
