The TH400 would be a great transmission for the 4.3. You really can't have "too much transmission." By my understanding, you're not saying the TH400 is currently in the truck, and I assume you just have it. Just checking, because it won't bolt up to the 2.8, but it will to the 4.3. If you have been led to believe you currently have a TH400 behind the 2.8, that's wrong. Whatever is behind the 2.8 will not bolt up to the 4.3, unless it's a T5 5-speed, and would still require a bellhousing swap. Sorry if I'm confused, but just trying to cover all bases and clear this up for you. Anything that will bolt to a Chevy small block or big block will bolt to the 4.3.

The 1988 S10 with the 2.8 litre V6 has a different bell housing than a 4.3 litre V6. The 4.3 has a bell housing the same as a V8. The trans used with the 4.3 is a little beefier than the 2.8 but not much The transmission is actually a 700R4 not a TH 400.

A 400 wll match up to a 4.3 V-6,its the same pattern as a small block.in fact some 90 model full-size trucks with 4.3 came with the THM 400 trans.

Use the t400. It's bullet proof and also fits a 4.3 (same as 350 V8)

You MAY have to buy a new flex plate.

Hope everything works out and you end up with a nice sleeper.
