I have two birds and I want to get a cat. What should I do so the cat won't hurt them? And something else, do you know any cat species that will really love me and my family?

All kitties will love you and your family. And of course the kitty will eventually get curious to know what is in the cage chirping and stuff... so make sure that the kitty cant get to the birdies while you are away. There are alot of cats that get used to the birds and become friends with them, keep a water bottle around so that if he gets too close to the bird cage then you can give him alittle squirt so he will run away and leave the birds alone =) Get a black and white kitty (a tuxedo kitty) and name him selvester =) good luck to you and your family!!... check your local animal shelter for some rescue kitties... this way they will come already neutered and vaccinated!!

Lots of cats can be loving. I have owned many breeds growing up. We had a show Persian and a regular old tabby from the shelter. The tabby was more loving then the Persian. It doesn't really matter the breed just the cat. Although I do have a soft spot for Manx cats. Check out your local shelter they have tons of cats. As for the birds well most cats do have prey drive. I suggest keeping the birds caged when the cats around or you be there at all times with a watchful eye. Also maybe put the birds or the cat in a room while you are away. Or see about getting the cat de-clawed so s/he has a harder time trying to climb on the cage. I always used a water bottle with my cats. When I would see one on a counter top or table I would squirt water on it. Pretty soon they go the idea. So if the cats getting to close to the cage just give it a little squirt of water.

It highly depends on what kind of birds you have. You should keep in mind that it stresses a bird to have a cat stare at the cage for hours and flick their tail . A birds defense is flight, escape. Sooo-if the cage prevents this then high stress occurs. If you insist on a cat at least place your birds out of the cats reach.

we have a cat and a bird and a dog. our cat does not bother our bird. but if he did we would just hang the bird cage from the ceiling so the cat couldn't get to it.
