I wouldn't call her forgetful, but grandma had lately become one to exit the ladies room with a rather impressive paper trail of sorts.

He was meticulous about not picking his nose in public, but lately he had been showing up at work with some pretty large bats hanging down in the cave.

In the parking garage of his apartment complex, Hiram rummaged through his pockets, finding a laser pointer, a dog treat, and a card uselessly reminding him of yesterday's missed dentist appointment. But no car key.

He trudged back upstairs and called his boss.

"Late again, sorry. Aliens abducted my car keys last night."

"What, again?"

"Last time, I believe I said the dog ate it."

"That's all right, then . See you when you get here. Before noon, please."

Hiram's thoughts were already in another time zone when he found the keys in the fridge a few minutes later.

He searched everywhere for ....., he had x earlier.
He could not remember where he put x, he shrugged his shoulders.
Writing notes and sticking them about the place.
House key on chain around neck.
