This simply means that you are a different person at work than you are at home. Like if you were a lawyer, and you spent all day in the courtroom yelling at people and driving everyone nuts, and then you come home, pop some extra butter popcorn, and watch a chick flick with your little sister. That is only one of many examples.

Actually, I've heard this used a lot to describe the irish wolfhound. It means that he is very gentle and stuff at home, and very domesticated. But he'll bring down anything on the hunt (a very good quality for a hound).

A person usually has a different personality when he is at home than when he is working. When that person comes home he wants to relax and enjoy his family that he works so hard for.
